It was a typical first game for both teams. Turnovers slowed the Mohawks until they took the lead at 43-41 early in the 4th quarter.
Wahlert held the lead at the half 31-26 but missed several opportunities to score on Mohawk turnovers (33) to hold a larger lead.
Peters had scored 11-first half points to keep the Mohawks close. She added nine points in the 4th quarter hitting five of six free throws to seal the victory for Marquette.
Marquette saw the Eagles grab a 47-46 lead on back to back threes with 3:50 left to play. Michel and Richman scored to give the Mohawks a 5-47 lead. Peters then grabbed a missed Mohawk free throw and scored to give the Mohawks a 52-47 lead. The Eagles never came closer as Peters and Lizzy Parker hit free throws to put the game away.
The win gets the Mohawks off to a 1-0 start with a game with the River Hawks Tuesday night.
