The Class 1A top 15-ranked Marquette girls basketball team up-ended the Class 2A (No. 15) Maquoketa Valley girls 77-64 last Thursday at home in the MEC.

Marquette’s Teona Richman scored 22 points, Miranda Peters added 16 points and Lizzy Parker and Macey Kremer each tossed in 15 points to drive up the score on Maquoketa Valley, despite 40 points being score by MV’s Sam Wall.

Marquette’s Tori Michel added another 9 points to seal the deal.

The game was close at the end of the first period, with Marquette leading 15-14. The Mohawk lead opened up a bit in the second and third periods, with Marquette holding on for an impressive win.

On Monday, the Lady Mohawks scored another victory over Durant, 70-38. Miranda Peters, who led the team in scoring with 20 points, was just one rebound short of a double-double.

The Mohawks went up, 23-11, through the first quarter, and outscored Durant, 20-4, in the third quarter for a 54-28 lead entering the fourth.

Tori Michel scored with 14 points for the Mohawks, Macey Kremer added 13 and Teona Richman had nine points and nine rebounds to round out the hardwood action.

In last Friday night’s match up against North Linn, Marquette suffered a 44-80 loss to North Linn. Teona Richman led the scoring for the lady Mohawks with 17, while Tori Michel added 9. Miranda Peters recorded 7 points, and Halie Kilburg scored 4 and Macey Kremer 2.

On Saturday the Marquette girls took down Edgewood-Colesburg 57-26. Tori Michel poured in a game high 22 points to lead the lady Mohawks, while Miranda Peters added 10 and Teona Richman added 7.


In Marquette boys action last week, the Mohawks dropped their game against Maquoketa Valley 46-58. Young Danny Koos led the home team in scoring with 24 points, while Ethan Pfiffner added 9 points, Matt Brinker 6, Carson Michels 5 and Tyler Kremer 2.

The Mohawks went on to lose to Durant as well 50-72. Ethan Pfiffner led the offensive effort with 18 points, Danny Koos scored 10; and Ty Parker and Tyler Kremer had 5 points each. Carson Michels, Parker Mueller, Nick Hager and Matt Brinker scored 2 each.

In action last Friday night at North Linn, the Marquette boys were plowed under with a 27 to 80 defeat. Carson Michels led the team with 11 points, while Matt Brinker scored 5 and Tyler Kremer 4. Jeb Schwager and Danny Koos each scored 3.

On Saturday, the Mohawks lost to Edgewood-Colesburg at a home game inside the MEC. The final score was 48-56. Ty Parker led the scoring with 21 points, while Aza Berthel and Tyler Kremer scored 11 and 9 points respectively. Jeb Schwager added 3, while Carson Michels and Matt Brinker scored 2 apiece.
