Bellevue girls started their 2018-19 season with a lopsided road victory over an inexperienced North Cedar team. The Knights were no match for the quick veteran  Comets. The Comets with three returning starters set the outcome  early. The defense was extremely tough.

Senior guards Kailey Miller,  Alyssa Rubel and     Giana Michels set the temple on defense and set the  interior players Lindsey Banowetz and Teresa Paulsen for easy baskets. The Comets were out quickly to a 8-2 lead and  never slowed down.

The  defense and scoring of Michels and Banowetz   pushed the score 20-6 after one quarter.

A mixture of starters and reserves kept the pressure  on pushing the lead to 45-10 at halftime.

Three-point baskets  by Maddie Schmidt (two),  and Audrey Wedeking, fueled a 25-4 second quarter burst. The Comets hit five three’s in the half.  Michels scored  11-pts, Banowetz nine and Schmidt six, with all three players   in abbreviated  playing time in the half .

After a short stint on the floor for the starters in the second half reserves took over and all but one  Comet player scored at least one basket.

The defense  controlled the Knights (7-pt half), including  a two point third quarter  sent  the game went to a running clock and ended 62 -17,

Michels led the Comets with 13-pts, Banowetz and Schmidt added 11-pts each  . Off the bench Schmidt hit 3-4 three pt shots for  the Comets. The other starters Paulsen  and Alyssa Rubel each had 5-points and Miller four in limited playing time.
