The Comets improved to 6-0 with a 42-7 thrashing of Dyersville Beckman.
Mistakes in the first half prevented the Comets from taking a big early lead. A bad snap and an interception in the red zone cost the Comets points when they were on scoring drives in the second quarter.
With the Comet defense in control (135 total yds, seven,1st downs) in the game, the score stood 13-0 at the half, but it very easily could been 28-0.
In the second half the Comets began to roll. The adjustments made by the coaching staff at the half were answered with a 21-point 3rd quarter and another big win was coming.
The defense was sparked by the play of Junior Tennant (9-tackles, 7-solo, 2 TFL) and linebacker Riley Konrardy (6-tackles 4-solo, TFL) and Hunter Clasen (7-tackles, 5-solo.) The offense by the trio of Junior Tennant, Trey Daugherty and Trevor Hager
The first possession for each team resulted in punting situations. Bellevue following a fine punt return by Trey Daugherty, saw quarterback Junior Tennant (15-20, 220 yds,3 tds) hook up with Daugherty (8-catches ,131 yds, td) for a 26 yd gain to the three yd line where Clasen ( 16-88yds, 3 tds) pounded it in for the first of his three short scoring runs. Ty Kloser added the PAT for a 7-0 lead.
The Comets added another score at the 9-minute mark in second quarter when Tennant hit a wide open Trevor Hager on a 34 yd scoring strike. The PAT was blocked and the score was 13-0.
Bellevue missed two scoring opportunities late in the half on miscues,once on a bad snap, another on a Blazer interception both plays coming in Beckman’s red zone.
Bellevue took the second half kick-off and scored in less then three minutes. They used the rushing of Clasen and Tennant's arm to cap off the drive with a 23 yd td pass to Daugherty, the PAT by Kloser good and a 20-0 lead.
A Blazer turnover set the Comets up for Clasen’s 6yd td run, Kloser’s PAT good and a 27-0 lead.
Late in the 3rd Daugherty set up another Clasen 1-yd run with a diving catch at the one-yd line, 33-0 lead, a two point PAT made it 35-0
Reserves filtered in for Bellevue and the Blazers avoided a shutout with a 51-yd run by Evan Wulfekuhle with 11:50 to play.
With one minute to play quarterback Tennant hit Hager for and 8-yd score, PAT good by Kloser for a 42-7 final.
