The Comets moved on in Class 2A regional volleyball with a sweep of the Northeast Rebels a team they have beaten three times this season. The scores went 25-12, 25-17, and 25-22. The Comets trailed in set #3 until they tied it at 19-18. They ended the match with a 10-3 run in set three.
In set #1 the Comets pulled away from a 5-5 tie using a set offense that resulted in hard kills by Lindsey Banowetz (9-kills) and Giana Michels (10-kills) off of short sets by Brin Daugherty (20-assists).
Their effort and scrappy play on defense helped set their hitters for hard kills . When Daugherty wasn’t setting, Taylor Wagner (11-assists) did. Aubrie Hager added 6-kills and Maddie Schmidt 4. Michels and Schmidt had only two errors in 40 attacks. As a team the Comets missed only 17 attempts in 100 attacks in the match.
Daugherty added 3-aces in a 17-17 serves ratio, Paige Klein was 17-17 3-aces and Wagner 17-17 with 2-aces, Michels also had two aces .
The defense was fueled by Michels with 14-digs, Daugherty 8, and Banowetz added 6.
The win moves the Comets to 16-14. They advanced to play Cascade in a regional quarter-final Monday, Oct.22 at 7 pm.
“ I feel like the team is playing the best volleyball of the season. We seem to be peaking at the right time and I’m excited for another potential tournament push. We had minimal unforced errors and a better kill efficiency, our hitters were more aggressive at the net. Our senior captain , Giana Michels played an excellent match with 10 kills(.391) kill efficiency and 14-digs. Lindsey Banowetz added 9-kills and Aubrie Hager 6-kills.
The Comets as a team did a great job serving with a 99 percent serve efficiency. Serve leaders were Paige Klein, Brin Daugherty an Taylor Wagner all at 100 percent, commented Coach Jodi Heim
