ACADEMIC ALL-STATERS: Tori Michel (left) and Halle Kilburg, both of Marquette Catholic High School in Bellevue, were recently named to the Iowa Girls Coaches Association Academic All-State team for the 2020 softball season.

  Bellevue’s ‘boys of summer,’ the Bellevue Braves, after receiving approval from the Bellevue City Council last week, started 2020 ball games at Cole Park with a 12-0 win over Holy Cross.

Gov. Kim Reynolds announced additional openings during her Wednesday press briefing last week. High schools athletics will return this summer. Reynolds gave baseball and softball the go-ahead to start the seasons effective June 1. More information is expected about non-school youth sports.

A Bellevue youth basketball clinic, hosted by Coach Rick Reeg, staff and players, was recently attended by 3rd-6th grade girls from both schools. At total of 38 youngsters (pictured above) attended. Together, they learned fundamental skills that will serve them well in the future.

Although the high school wrestling season was completed in mid-February, that didn't mean that wrestling was over with Bellevue's Shooting Stars youth wrestling program. Over the past few weeks four youth wrestlers competed at two AAU sanctioned tournaments in Des Moines and Waterloo.
