The Iowa Newspaper Association recently announced preliminary winners of the Iowa Better Newspaper Contest for 2019, based on work during the past 12 months. The Bellevue Herald-Leader (in the highest weekly circulation class in Iowa) will receive first, second or third place in six categories this year.
Those categories include Best Front Page (David Namanny); Best News Photo (Kim Galloway) Best Feature Page (David Namanny); Best Total Newspaper Design (David Namanny); Best Newspaper Promotion (staff); and Best Special Section - Editorial (David Namanny).
The Bellevue Herald-Leader received second placed for Best Photo Story in 2018; and received three first-place awards in 2017, including Best Front Page, Best Photo Story and the coveted Community Service Award. In 2016, the Bellevue Herald-Leader received three second place awards, two for photography and one for newspaper design.
The six awards for 2019 will be presented during the Iowa Newspaper Association’s annual convention at the Marriott in Des Moines in early February.
The year 2019 will also mark the 150th year of business for the Herald-Leader, Bellevue’s oldest continuing business.
