Stephen was born on November 24, 1950, the son of Lester and Leona (Hammerand) Haferbier in Clinton, Iowa. Steve was a lifelong resident of the Green Island area where he became fascinated with nature and the outdoors. He often leant his mother and father a hand on the Haferbier family farm, and living just a few miles down the road made this time truly memorable for the entire family. He is well known in the community as an accomplished guitar player. He performed solo as well as with various bands and has been a member of the “Stoneheart” band for many years. Steve passed on his love of music to his children and everyone he met. He was especially proud of the musical achievements of all six of his children.
Steve leaves his wife of 42 years, Carol, as well as six children, Jesse (Andrea) Haferbier, Gabriel Haferbier, and Esmé Haferbier, Scott (Susan) Sosna, Courtney Sosna (Steve) Bruner, and Jeremy (Stacey) Sosna. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Zade Haferbier and Alexandra, Evan and Morgan Bruner. He also leaves four sisters, Beverly (Jim) Cusimano, Marlene (Truman) Greve, Linda (Ron) Mangler, and Julie (Steve) Cooper. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Leona (Hammerand) Haferbier.
