Bellevue’s Todd ‘Toad’ McQuistion is collecting toys this holiday season for the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital as his way of ‘paying it forward.’

He’s been known as ‘Toad’ since his grade school years in Bellevue, and now Todd McQuistion is leaping into the holiday spirit by collecting goodies for the children at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.

He’s calling the effort ‘Toad Hunts for Toys,’ and he hopes to collect over 100 toys for the ailing youngsters.

“I have been thinking about this for a while and really want to pay it forward for the kids at Christmas time,” said McQuistion, a 1983 graduate of Bellevue High School. “I plan to deliver the toys myself, with the help of a few volunteers.”

McQuistion already has part of a tote filled with donations and is looking for more. Folks who want to donate can drop off toys at his home, located at 404 North 3rd Street. A drop box for Toad’s toys is also located at Horizon Hall in Bellevue.

“I contacted the hospital and received a list of what can be accepted,” said McQuistion. “Together we can make a few kids smile and lift their spirits up during their stay in the hospital.”

The list of toys suggested by the University of Iowa includes colored pencils, journals, washable colored markers, watercolor paint sets, playdoh, craft sets, model cars, Discovery Kids craft sets, lego sets, Matchbox cars, Fisher-Price Little People toys and any toys centered around popular characters from Disney, Frozen, Thomas the Train, Star Wars, Doc McStuffins, Paw Patrol and Peppa Pig.

Gift cards (of no more than $50 each) from Target, WalMart, iTunes and other outlets will also be accepted. Gift cards for the University of Iowa Hospital’s Food and Nutrition Services was also a suggested gift.
