At least six special agents and criminologists are expected to testify in the upcoming trial of Drew Alan Mangler for first-degree murder of James Remakel in Bellevue in 2016.
Mangler’s trial is set to begin in Maquoketa Monday, Feb. 4, barring a plea deal or delay. Watch www.bellevueheraldleader.com for updates throughout the week of the trial.
Subpoenas served thus far to witnesses include four special agents with the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation, three criminologists with the DCI Criminalistics Lab in Ankeny and the state’s deputy medical examiner.
Remakel’s body was found with multiple stab wounds on Christmas Day, 2016, in his Riverview Street home. Bloodstained shoes helped lead officers to Mangler, who was arrested for first-degree murder in May, 2018.
